I am Carlos Gil. I wrote the book The End of Marketing, published by Kogan Page. I spent years as a keynote speaker and consultant helping brands rethink how they connect with audiences in an era where algorithms control everything.
In 2024, I joined GetResponse as a Contracted Brand Evangelist with a clear mandate: increase brand awareness, credibility, and growth in the U.S. market — where competitors like Klaviyo, Kit, and Beehiiv had stronger U.S. brand recognition. Over the engagement, I led U.S. content strategy, modernized the brand's social presence, built partnerships with creators and influencers, represented the brand at major marketing conferences, and launched a U.S. customer success story program from scratch. I worked with thousands of creators, founders, and brands on email strategy. I analyzed data from billions of emails. I saw firsthand what separates email programs that generate revenue from ones that just take up space in someone's tech stack.
What I learned was simple.
The gap is never the tool. The gap is always the system.
Creators would sign up for an ESP, send a few newsletters, see mediocre open rates, and conclude that email did not work for them. But the platform was fine. What was missing was the strategy, the segmentation, the automation architecture, the conversion-focused copy, and the ongoing optimization that turns a list into a revenue channel.
Before SendFocus existed as a service, the playbook ran in my own business. In 2022, my brother-in-law Reggie and I opened The Hype Section, a sneaker and sports card store in Jacksonville, Florida. We built it to $1M in sales in 12 months — with almost no ad budget — using the email, SMS, loyalty, and customer reactivation systems that later became the SendFocus methodology. The playbook is battle-tested on my own brick-and-mortar before it ever became a service.
That gap is why I built SendFocus.
Two years earlier, in early 2020, my brother-in-law Reggie and I launched Outlaw Masks — a paisley-print DTC brand — when COVID cancelled my speaking tour and two largest corporate contracts in the same week. We turned $5,000 into seven figures over 12 months using the email capture, Meta retargeting, and TikTok virality flywheel that became part of the SendFocus methodology.
