The SendFocus Thesis

Post less.
Send more.

Attention on social is rented. Relationships in the inbox are owned. Build the list, then make it earn.

01 / The Problem

You’re paying rent on attention you don’t own.

Most creators and founders I talk to are on a treadmill. Post every day. Chase the format the algorithm likes this quarter. Watch the numbers. Do it again tomorrow.

The problem isn’t effort. It’s who controls the outcome. The platform decides how many of your followers see a post. The platform decides when the rules change. You do the work, they hold the keys.

I learned that the hard way. In 2019 my Instagram account got shadowbanned. No warning, no explanation, no appeal that worked. Years of audience-building, and I couldn’t reach the people who followed me.

That’s the rent. You pay it in hours, in content, in ad spend to reach people who already said they wanted to hear from you. And the landlord can raise it whenever he wants.

02 / The Shift

Your list is the one audience that comes with you.

A follower is a maybe. A subscriber is a yes. Someone gave you their email address and said, send me stuff. Nobody sits between you and that person. You decide when they hear from you, what you say, and what you sell. If you switch email providers, the list moves with you. Try that with your followers.

Rented: followers

  • The algorithm decides who sees your post.
  • The platform can change reach, rules or payouts overnight.
  • You can’t export the relationship.
  • Great for discovery. Weak for selling.

Owned: subscribers

  • You decide when your message goes out.
  • They asked to hear from you.
  • The list is portable. It’s a business asset.
  • Built for relationships, offers and repeat sales.

I’ve lived both sides. At Outlaw Masks we built 300K+ TikTok followers and 25,000+ email subscribers in about a year. When the trend faded, the TikTok reach faded with it. The email list didn’t. At The Hype Section, we captured email and SMS on every sale from day one, and the list was the engine behind a $1M first year from one store.

03 / What “Send More” Means

Send more doesn’t mean spam more.

It means the list gets the time and the thinking you used to give the feed. You don’t need more emails. You need emails with a job, sent by a system that keeps running when you’re busy. Here’s what that system is made of.

  1. A welcome sequence that does the selling

The first few emails after someone signs up get read more than anything you send later. Introduce yourself, set expectations, make the first offer. Most lists get a thank-you note and silence.

  2. Segmentation by behavior

Readers, buyers and lurkers should not get the same email. Tag what people click and what they buy, then send each group the thing it actually wants.

  3. A job for the list

Products, launches, sponsors, a service, a book. Every list needs a revenue job you can write on a napkin. “Stay top of mind” is not a job.

  4. A cadence with a number on it

Show up on a schedule your readers can count on. Track revenue per subscriber, not just opens. If you can’t see what a send made, you can’t make the next one better.

And “post less” doesn’t mean quit social. Keep it for discovery. Pick the one or two platforms where your people actually are, and give every post one job: move the right person onto the list.

04 / Who This Is For

You built the audience. Now build the system.

  • Creators with a real following and revenue that still swings with the algorithm.
  • Authors and speakers whose book launch or keynote creates a spike that disappears a week later.
  • Founders whose list keeps growing while the newsletter makes nothing.
  • Coaches and course creators who rebuild every launch from a blank page.

Not a fit if you want to buy a list, blast daily discounts, or get rich off a template. This is slower than a viral post and a lot more durable.
